Running X11

HOW TO RUN X11

Follow these steps to run the X11 on the Grid for X forwarding.

If you are using Unix/Mac OSX/Linux, then X11 may already be installed on your system. However, if it is not, you can download it at the links below:

For Mac OSX: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

For others: http://www.x.org/wiki/Releases/Download

Open Terminal and log on to the Grid.

Type: ssh -X zz9993@grid.wayne.edu

NOTE: In this example we are using the AccessID zz9993; however, substitute this with your own AccessID. We use the -X to open X11.

ssh -YC zz9993@grid.wayne.edu

Enter your password.

Password input

Submit an interactive job:

qsub -I -q wsuq -X

NOTE: In this example we chose the wsuq; however, choose whichever queue is best for your needs. The '-X' option allows you to use X11 without opening a new session.

qsub -I -q wsuq -X

You are assigned to a node, in this example rnd1.

Type 'xterm' and press Enter.

Input: xterm &

An X11 window will open. You are now using X11 through the Grid.
