Running STATA

HOW TO RUN STATA - INTERACTIVE

Follow these steps to run STATA on the Grid.

You will need to download an X window system. If you are using Unix, Linux, or OSX you can use X11. Follow the steps in the X11 Tutorial here, then pick up here in this tutorial.

For Windows users, you can download Xming here. See the Xming Tutorial here also, follow the part of X11 forwarding from the same page before proceeding below.

Launch Xming when the installation finishes.

Log on to the Grid.

Submit an interactive job:

qsub -I -l mem=10gb -X

NOTE: The -X option allows you to use an X Windows session.

In this example we submitted the job to the wsuq and are assigned the node vii34.

qsub command for stata

Type: module load stata-14

Input: module load stata-14

Type: xstata

Input: stata

You are now running STATA.

HOW TO RUN STATA - NON_INTERACTIVE

Follow these steps to run STATA on the Grid.

Log on to the Grid.

Create a my-stata.job similar to:


#!/bin/bash
#PBS -N stata
#PBS -l select=1:ncpus=8
#PBS -j oe
#PBS -m ea

module load stata-14
stata my-job-output.txt

Press the Escape key and type :wq to save and quit.

To submit the job type:

qsub my-stata.job

The job is submitted. You can check to see what node it is running on with the following command.

qme
